So, I did a thing for Earth Day last weekend and I’m so glad that I did..
I booked myself into a bit of yoga which focused on being connected to ourselves and the world around us..
It was set in the beautiful Sussex countryside in a luxury yurt and was a cosy affair with other likeminded individuals looking for the same thing..
I was nervous to do something different, (my heart feeling like it was beating out of my chest as I arrived) although having done yoga for many years I knew I had that part down okay, but I’d never been to an event like this and yet I felt like I was floating on cloud 9 afterwards..
One thing it made me realise is how disconnected we can sometimes be when we have so much at the click of a button and yet I switched my phone off for a whole two hours and it was the best thing ever (I can’t tell you how liberating it felt)..
No distractions, no overwhelming information and the only thing to focus on was me, the mat and the instructions given, as well as enjoying being in the most stunning of surroundings ..
Sometimes we can get so caught up in life and doing that we forget to simply be and rest and sometimes we can be fearful to try something new, but then we come to realise afterwards that it’s the one thing that we needed in that moment..
With the premise of Earth Day woven into the 2 hour practice not only of connection between ourselves and nature, but also in seeing how small acts of intentional action can support the natural world around us, even if it’s reserving one garden pot for wild flowers for the bees or a bee hotel as a home for solitary bees to nest in..
I didn’t even notice before the day that I had felt so distanced to what supports life and the lives we lead and how important it is that we equally take care of nature too, like it does for us…
Not solely reserved for what I do outside of the day job, I like to challenge myself in my business too (even if it petrifies me) and each year I look to learn something new or to maintain my skill —- this year is no different and I have booked myself into a writing workshop this June (with ticket sales going to support an historic church building and with promises of homemade jam) with a writer and editor of some of the most well known and biggest magazines — more on this to come..
Do you push yourself out of your own comfort zone either personally or professionally and if so, what have you done lately that has served as an ‘ah ha’ or ‘lightbulb’ learning moment of realisation?
NB: Credit of artwork to my creative, autistic son whom is doing work experience with me to support his college course.
